SUITE DEDICATED TO JOANNA OF AUSTRIA

Despite being the daughter of Ferdinand I of Habsburg, probably the most powerful sovereign in Europe in the 16th century, Joanna was a sad and sickly child. Joanna married Francesco I de’ Medici in a very sumptuous wedding, but the love between the two never blossomed as she had to compete with his lover, Bianca Cappello, who was more beautiful than her.

. In this room, you can perceive the Grand Duchess’s state of mind and the serenity of the environment that surrounded her.

On the central wall of the room, there is the large coat of arms of the House of Medici with the knightly honour of the Golden Fleece conferred by Charles V.
